Princes Street at the junction of Fredrick Street is better with the eastern side of Fredrick Street being best. I’ve been out taking photos of the Tattoo fireworks about 8 times this year and the trees in Princes Street Gardens get in your way. It might be busier on Princes Street this year as Inverleith Park is closed as a viewing area. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.

This is the first time I’ve known the Forth Road Bridge to be completely closed due to weather. It’s still snowing heavily here in Central Scotland. Very useful, thanks UncleGus. Plaudits to the Lothian Bus drivers – it’s fantastic that buses are still operating albeit on part routes. The 49 this morning was not for the claustrophobic! Have I missed 2 bridges? I only know of the original road and rail bridges. I realise there will be plenty of other bridges crossing the river on it’s journey to the sea, but I’m not aware of any of them being referred to as the ‘Forth Bridge’. Technically if you go as far as Stirling to the M9 bridge there are 9 crossings including the oldest of them all at Stirling Bridge although I think Mike must be referring to the newish Clackmannan Bridge and the Kincardine Bridge as the other two.
I think those are not in the Firth of Forth, I think it is still classified as a river and at that point it flows into the firth. I looked for a definition of how far the firth would stretch: it would be to where the tidal water meets the freshwater current resulting in brackish water. By that definition it stretches to Stirling, possibly even as far as the Stirling Bridge.

Completed in , it houses the research institutes of the University’s School of Informatics. The architects’ brief was to provide a Forum for Interaction that will foster synergies among the researchers in Informatics : Artificial Intelligence , Cognitive Science , Computer Science , and Systems Biology , who have been brought together, under one roof, by this development. One of the major recommendations of the international review that led to the formation of Informatics as an academic grouping at Edinburgh, was that the University should provide a building for the collocation of Informatics.

What do you mean Sandra? I am going for a walk across the Forth road bridge next Saturday weather permitting so I can have a good look at the new bridge. With forecasts of a hard winter ahead, it’s a brave person who says when the bridge will be completed! Typical paltry journalism. One 50m segment then the concrete block substructure is continuous.
There’s a shedload more work to be done to turn the bridge into a roadway. It’s a bit like saying a house is complete because the four outside walls are up. However I suspect that progress from now on will be a little more predictable because there will be less work on these super-high-level cranes. CCE is 10 years old! Well done to ALL posters It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That’s fine. No swearing. Register – lost password? We have a problem with the date of the next POP. We were going to go for Sunday the 27th April, but that clashes with the Great Edinburgh Run we did ask back in autumn but have only found this out now. Pros: easier for people to get to Edinburgh, possibly more impact on the day.
Cons: harder maybe even impossible to get permission for our chosen route, possibly less press coverage. We can push it back into May although none of the dates which are free are ideal. One which is free, May 18th would mean it was on the same weekend as the Space For Cycling rides being held to coincide with local elections in England but other than European elections there are none in Scotland.

I have done a search from previous posts and on the tour website but I couldn’t find a definite answer to my question so hoping some one on the forum can help. We are coming for four and a half days in May and want to see Edinburgh Castle , Holyrood Palace and Royal Yacht Britannia among other thngs, but we are not sure on what days we want to visit what attractions and there is the problem, as buying tickets online requires you to pick a definite day so I thought buying the Royal Edinburgh Ticket would be a good way around this problem as long as the tickets from the tour company don’t have a definite date stamped on them.
Does anyone know if this is the case? If there is no date on the tickets for the Castle etc then we could visit on which ever day suited us. I am aware that the bus riding part of the ticket package is only valid for 48hrs but I think the entry tickets are valid longer, I’m just not sure if there is any date on them. The tour bus part of the Royal Edinburgh ticket is only valid for 48 hours and this starts at the point when you get on the first bus.
The attractions entries are valid for anytime after you buy your ticket, you do not have to go within the 48hours and you also don’t have to go on a specific day. When you buy the Royal ticket you will get a little booklet with bus tickets and tickets for all three attractions which you can use anytime.
